Died--Wednesday morning, Oct. 4, 1899. Mrs. Eunice C. Hatheway, age 72 years and 5 months. Mrs. Hatheway has been in feeble health for many months. During the past week her death has been expected at any moment and her husband and children have been attendant at her bedside. The funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church Thursday morning, Rev. W.T. Selby preaching the funeral sermon. The following notice has been kindly furnished us:

Eunice C. Prior was born in Stow, Portage County, Ohio, April 21st, 1827-was married to Edwin S. Hatheway in Northampton, Ohio, by Rev. T. Holloway, pastor of M.E. church March 18, 1845.
Removed to Iowa in the year 1850; thence to Bennington, Kansas, March 1880, where she resided to the day of her death.

She was converted and joined the Methodist church in her youth. For more than fifty-six years she has been a faithful worker in the church of her early choice. In her home the Circuit-rider always found a welcome during the pioneer day of both Iowa and Kansas. She was always identified with the interests of the church. During her last illness the welfare of the church and Sunday School was on her mind. She never made a loud profession, but during all these years her trust and confidence was in the living God, and she died as she lived, trusting in the merits of the Crucified Redeemer. She rests from her labors and her works will follow her.
She as a Christian warrior stood,
In all the armor of her God;
The Spirit's sword was in her hand,
Her feet with the gospel shod.
In panopoly of truth complete,
Salvation's helmet on her head;
With righteousness a breastplate meet,
And faith's broad shield before her spread.
Thus strong in her Redeemer's strength,
Sin, death and hell, she trampled down;
And fought in good fight, and won at last,
Through mercy, and eternal crown."

On 18 Mar 1845 when Eunice C. was 17, she married Edward (Edwin) Sterling HATHEWAY, son of Levi HATHEWAY Jr. (22 Sep 1787-31 Mar 1864) & Betsey (Betsie) MATHER, in N.Hampton, Summit Co., OH.
